A 2.0-litre Four Pot In An F-type? What In The World...

Jaguar F-type 2.0: Two By Four

What you’re looking at is the undeniably gorgeous Jaguar F-Type with a crucial difference — gone is the shouty (and rather orgasmic, might I add) V8, and so is the V6, something I deemed to be the best of both worlds. This F-Type here comes with a 2.0-litre inline-four. Hurts, right? It does.

Why has Jaguar gone and ripped the F-Type’s soul? You could point the finger at downsizing and its obvious advantages, and let’s face it: the world’s doing it, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. The good news is that you can very well go into a Jag showroom today and still spec your F-Type with the V6 or the V8 because they’re both still very much on the cards, still. But should you?

I’ll get to that in a bit. For now, what you should know is that the biggest tells that this is a 2.0-litre F-Type is the fact that it gets one massive tailpipe right in the centre instead of multiple pipes. There’s a P300 badge on the rear, it gets rear-wheel drive only and an 8-speed auto is the only configuration you can get it in. Since it’s already lost in excess of 50 kg over the V6, I wonder if Jaguar experimented with a manual gearbox. That would’ve given me the proper chills, it would’ve. But it hasn’t gone down that route, so let’s move on.
