I was visiting the shop where I go to have my old car generators or other ignition items repaired; while the owner was looking for some parts I saw on a table covered with old electrical items, a cylinder with fins, which looked as if it came from a two-stroke engine.
I asked the owner, “What is that” he replied “Oh it’s an old machine inherited from my long gone father. I don’t know exactly what it is, but it is broken and parts are missing”. I then asked “are you willing to sell it?” His reply was “Yes, I will never do anything with it”.

Lister Conundrum?
Back in 2016 a discussion took place on Fozzer’s Forum about early Lister J type engines; as I have a very early Lister 2 ½ hp, I was interested and took part in the discussion. I have always had an interest in Lister engines, having nine in my shed, all of which are restored, except a spec 52 Lister A. I had never delved into the history of these engines as I considered that just about everything was known about them, through the work done by the late David Edgington, and information is readily available.
