Convoy in the Park at Donington Park on 21-22 July is promising to be even bigger and better than the 2017 event, with a mix of on-track and off-track action to keep families entertained all weekend.
Billed, for very good reason, as the ultimate celebration of trucks and drivers, Convoy in the Park at the Donington Park circuit in Leicestershire showcases the best in the industry over a weekend with a real festival feel to it.
Last year’s inaugural event was a great success, with thousands of people attending the circuit for both days and more than 1000 show trucks attending. But this year’s show is set to be bigger and better, with more entertainment both on- and off-track planned for all the family to enjoy.
On-track action
The centrepiece of the on-track action will be round five of the British Truck Racing Championship. In the early season meets, the racing has been as close as ever in both divisions.
In Division One, reigning champion Ryan Smith in his MAN has again set the pace, taking several wins so far. But familiar rivals Stuart Oliver (Volvo), David Jenkins and Mat Summerfield (both MAN), along with impressive newcomer Jamie Anderson (MAN), are close behind.
Meanwhile, in Division Two Luke Garrett (MAN) has been the man to beat this season so far, building up a 28-point lead over his rivals after the first two rounds. However, Brad Smith and John Bowler, both in Dafs, and Simon Cole in his Mercedes-Benz are taking the challenge to Garrett.
In addition, there is a full programme of support series across the weekend. This includes the UK Legends – based on â…-scale replicas of 1930s Fords, Chevys and Dodges, these ‘pocket rockets’ have bumper grids of 30-plus cars and, with its reversed grids, the action is often frantic with constant overtaking.
Another attraction is the Classic 2CV Racing Championship. Yes, they race Citroën 2CVs. These former road cars have been given a thorough racing makeover and then let loose on the track. This is another series with bumper grids, ensuring close racing and plenty of overtaking.
