Legacy Honorees 2018 - As Divine And Defiant As They Come
TO BE A WOMAN OF POWER IS TO CREATE your own truth. It requires a refusal to be defined by others’ standards and expectations. It means possessing the vision to see where you want to be and the drive to propel yourself there. It takes grit, grace, talent, intelligence, and the unwavering determination to simply rise each day and do all you can to execute with excellence and then do it again. And, again.
This year’s four Legacy Award winners are, by definition, all standouts as individuals. The qualities they share are those personified by every Legacy honoree in our 13 years of awards: consistent excellence, a tireless work ethic, and an unassailable refusal to be contained by tradition, categorized by culture, or confined by the limitations anyone else might dare set. Like the trailblazing queens we honored before them, these four great women have looked all the –isms in the eye and said, “Watch me!”
Watch me WIN:
DONNA BRAZILE
POLITICAL ANALYST & FORMER INTERIM CHAIR OF THE DNC
The first woman of color to direct a major presidential campaign, for Al Gore in 2000, Donna Brazile has been a force in American political strategy since she was a teenager growing up in her beloved New Orleans.
The third of nine children, she learned early to raise her voice and be heard. She would play a role in virtually every Democratic presidential campaign since 1976, including Jesse Jackson’s in 1984 when she was his mobilization director.
She served as vice chair and interim chair of the Democratic National Convention in 2012 and was appointed interim chair again in 2016.
