Burdened with excess unsold coal, both Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL) of Coal India and Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) are competing against each other for meeting the complete coal requirement and thereby replacing imports for Tangendco’s 3 units of 2400 MW consisting of North Chennai Thermal Power Station Stage-III (1 x 800 MW) and Uppur Super Critical Thermal Power Project (2 x 800 MW). Tangendco is one of the highest importers of coal among state utilities.
Competing bids
SCCL has told Tangendco that as low ash coal is available with it to the tune of 3 million tons for which linkage may be recommended on to SCCL for substituting the import component of coal required for these two plants.
SCCL has also recently told the Standard Linkage Committee (Long Term) that Tangendco has expressed willingness to have a long term linkage with the miner on assurance of supply from Talcher area at comparable price to MCL.
