Coking Coal Offers Ease In January

Not withstanding the concerns over the formation of a tropical cyclone in Western Australia, seaborne coking coal prices eased significantly in January 2018, mainly because of low demand and easing of port congestion, industry sources said.

The gap between CFR China and FOB Australia prices for premium hard coking coal narrowed, with cargoes being offered as low as $232 per ton FOB Australia.

According to information available with Coal Insights, the premium variety was quoted lower at $231 per ton FOB Australia on January 18, 2018 as against $262 per ton FOB Australia on December 29, 2017. Peak Down prices were quoted at $232 per ton FOB Australia on January 18, 2018 as compared to $263 per ton FOB Australia on December 29.
