As I have mentioned in previous articles, there is no one-size-fits-all ‘recipe’ for fertilising a crop. This is why you need to make use of a soil analysis to determine what’s already in the soil and what’s required for the crop. You might actually save money on fertiliser. More importantly, the soil analysis will provide you with a formula for an optimal yield.
Generally, when you use an analysis, you can add the minerals that are lacking in the soil. The balance between them doesn’t have to be perfect, but it’s definitely worth aiming for.
CALCIUM
Calcium is a particularly important element. Any shortage could result in blossom-end rot developing on the fruit, rendering it unmarketable.
