Peloton’s popularity exploded during the pandemic as it rolled out dance classes and a “family fun” vertical, a high-end Bike Plus with a rotating screen and Apple Watch connectivity, and partnerships with Amazon TV, Apple TV, and Android TV. The company also launched “threshold deliveries” to get bikes to customers safely, and saved its retail staff by moving them to its bustling remote customer service operation.
In a worrying year, meditation app Calm spread tranquility via smart partnerships: Last May, it teamed with Kaiser Perma nente to offer free membership to the insurer’s 12.4 million customers, and ramped up other corporate subscriptions. The company capitalized on election anxiety by sponsoring CNN’s election coverage and partnered with HBO Max for the 10-episode series A World of Calm.
