What you see is not what you get. The old adage certainly reflects the revelation that unravels on meeting Robert Vadra (or Rob, as he is fondly called by his close friends). We had approached this interview with many preconceived notions about what one has heard. Robert Vadra may be a household name, yet for all that, he is a relatively elusive, enigmatic entity.

It is far from easy to get Robert to open up, to delve deep into his inner psyche; to peel off the layers of reserve that appear to surround India’s most speculated upon son-in-law, the husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. However, once maneuvered to a relaxed state, Vadra sounds like any genuine patriot, with an eye on the future of India’s citizenry. Because of the extraordinary circumstances of his life’s journey, he seems to have developed an inner balance. His experiences according to him, have not been normal; his life has been special in many ways. Having to interact with people from all walks of life, given his proximity to the political hearbeat of India, he speaks of learning from every experience and from all the different people he meets. “A person’s background does not matter to me, I am the same with everyone, it is being a good human being that counts,” he says. It was evident from his relaxed and welcoming nature that people do not hesitate to come up and talk to him. He responds to them with a smile and listens patiently. “I don’t take things literally, I have a sense of humour about myself and about life and I am open about my views on my Facebook page and blogs. After all that I have experienced, I take life as it comes and live each day to the fullest.”
