Sachin Relekar - Fund Manager (Equity)

Sachin has an overall experience of around 11 years in financial markets with over 7 years of experience in equity research across sectors like Construction, Infrastructure developments, Power utilities, Steel, Oil & Gas and Automobile. He has been associated with LIC MF since December’2012. Prior to joining LIC MF, he was associated with TATA Asset Management Ltd., CD Equi Search Pvt. Ltd, Innovision Consulting and Tech Pacific (I) Ltd. Sachin, is currently the Dedicated Fund Manager for managing investments of LIC Mutual Fund.

Please take us through your journey in the Indian markets and its future.

My career in capital market started in 2005. I am fortunate to have an opportunity to research variety of sectors during my career as an analyst. I tracked infrastructure, metals, energy, automotive for many years. If I were to reflect on these years, there are two valuable takeaways for me:

We had seen very optimistic phase towards infrastructure sector and which is followed by quite a disappointment. In fact, some of the excess of that phase are reflected in banking sector currently. However, during these years, some companies created phenomenal wealth for investors. If we look at the characteristics of these businesses, there were some commonalities which stand out: high standards of governance and quality of people, large scalable opportunity available in front of theme, competitive advantage, and disciplined capital allocation enabled it to reinvest to maintain competitive advantage.
