Moving ahead & handing over the reins to the next generation:
Well it has indeed being a long journey; the industry has changed from where we started. Every day presents new opportunities and challenges, hence I look at the business as being still fresh where we cannot sit on our laurels earned over the years, as we have to beat the complacency which tends to creep in over time.
As a first generation business entrepreneur and owner, it’s extremely difficult to hand over the reins to someone or to the next generation. It’s like handing over your own baby you have nurtured and brought up to someone else. It’s very difficult to accept that the next generation will do justice to the company the same way you have handled the company. But as with life, this is something which needs to be done. Let me however tell you that the new generation has a fresh and new mindset and a different way of looking at things, which is different from what I may have and I am confident that handing over the reins is the right thing to do eventually. While our current people are very capable to run the business; we may also look at pooling in new talent if the situation arises.
As a company we are very structured and have people, teams, roles and all systems in place which run the company even when I am travelling or on vacation. Regular tasks are handled without my interference. However the most immediate challenge I see while handling over reins is crucial decision making. Some critical decisions are still influenced by me in the company.
This however will eventually get handed over with some hand holding and confidence building measures.

Retail As A Connected Economy

‘TRUST IS BUILT THROUGH THE BRAND COMMUNICATION'
There was one positive fallout of the sudden shift in consumer buying behavior post Covid. And that was the marked rise in demand for immunity building and hygiene products of good quality. As per a Nielsen report, the hand wash segment expanded 60% in March 2020 compared to 7% in the preceding three months. As a result, more innovative products and newer brands are entering the personal hygiene space. FMCG major Emami Limited, after making a successful foray into the hygiene space with BoroPlus Advanced Anti-Germ Hand Sanitizer in April 2020, recently expanded its BoroPlus Hygiene Range. In a special conversation with Point of Purchase, Priti A Sureka, Director, Emami Limited, shares more details about this expansion, the biggest challenge for the FMCG industry today, key tips for retailers to navigate the crisis, and more.
‘THERE IS INCREASED UNDERSTANDING OF BUSINESS BENEFITS FROM DIGITAL SIGNAGE'
Brands today are increasingly taking the technological route to communicate with their end users, making the shopping experience more experiential while also fulfilling the basic consumer needs today for safe, contactless shopping and a reassuring retail environment. This makes it inevitable for a tech-enabled ecosystem, with a network of centrally controlled digital display solutions, coming into play.
