Fugitive in $35M scam caught in frigid lake after using diving sled to hide from the law

WANTED by the feds in a $35 million Ponzi scheme, a coldhearted con man sank his bid for freedom with a failed underwater sea scooter escape in a frigid California lake, investigators say.

Matthew Piercey, 44, led the FBI on a wild car chase through neighborhoods and highways to Lake Shasta — the state’s largest reservoir — authorities allege.

Agents say the crafty crook then ditched his truck, grabbed a Yamaha 350Li, and tried to hide underwater!
