‘The proposal was a dream come true'

Love Island’s Lucie Donlan on getting engaged, coping with fame and why her home county of Cornwall will always be her sanctuary

She failed to find lasting love in the villa during her stint on Love Island in 2019, but Lucie Donlan has found her happy ending with series six Islander Luke Mabbott.

Just weeks before our interview, the Cornish surfer said yes to the 26-year-old former heating engineer when he popped the question under the Northern Lights in Finland. “It was beautiful,” she tells us.

And to continue riding her wave of joy, Lucie is excited to tell us about her latest lingerie collaboration with high street store Ann Summers. This is the third Knickerbox collection for the 23-year-old, who looks fabulous in the brand’s photoshoot – although she admits that striking a pose hasn’t always come naturally to her.

“When I first started modelling, I was so nervous and I didn’t really know what to do or how to pose,” she says.

Here, Lucie chats about Luke’s romantic proposal, the valuable lessons she’s learnt from her time in the spotlight and how the great outdoors always lifts her mood…

Congrats on your engagement! What was the proposal like?

It was beautiful – a gorgeous setting under the Northern Lights. You can’t get much better than that. It was a dream come true.

Did you have any inkling that Luke might pop the question?

I had a slight feeling he may do it, but I wasn’t entirely sure. It was still such a surprise for me.
