A Fond Farewell: The Queen's Silent Tears
She has been praised for her resilience since losing her beloved husband and is known for her unshakeable strength. But in a moment of rare emotion, the Queen wiped away a tear as the body of her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was laid to rest in St George’s Chapel, Windsor, last Saturday.

The funeral also marked the first time that Prince William and Prince Harry had been seen together in public for over a year. The brothers, who have suffered a challenging relationship in recent times, walked behind the coffin – covered with the Duke’s personal standard, his sword, naval cap, and a wreath of flowers – and looked at ease with each other as they chatted following the emotional service.

As the procession arrived at the chapel, the national anthem played out, guns were fired by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from the East Lawn, and a bell tolled in the Curfew Tower, calling on the nation to take a moment to pause and remember.

Seated on her own within the chapel because of the pandemic, the Queen was joined at the service by 29 guests, including her children Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.

Prince Charles looked visibly emotional as he walked in the procession behind the coffin and, once in the chapel, he was joined by his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, who sat with him throughout the service.
