As far as comebacks go, Charlotte Church seems to be the master. The Welsh singing sensation, who was propelled to fame when she was just 12 years old, lived a life most of us couldn’t imagine.
But after selling millions of records, launching her own chat show, and even breaking America, Charlotte seemed to disappear from the public eye and has been keeping a relatively low profile for the past decade.
Now, aged 35, Charlotte is ready to make her well-deserved return to the spotlight. First, she was unveiled as The Masked Singer’s vocally gifted Mushroom, and then she made an appearance on tell-all ITV interview show Kate Garraway’s Life Stories.
She told Kate of cutting ties with her mum at 16, “As far as I was concerned, I needed to be free. I just had to cut the ties. I was at an age where I thought I knew everything. They were trying to protect me but I just saw that as holding me too tight. It’s only with hindsight that I knew just what it meant to my mum.
“It felt like they had completely lost me and just this whole life that we had built together. I understand now what they went through. For me, I was 16 and the world was my oyster and I was having a load of fun. I feel sorry, particularly for my mum as I know what it cost her.”
During our exclusive interview with the singer, she says, “I’ve been venturing out a little bit more nowadays – I’ve got stuff to say.”
Although she has not sought attention, Charlotte has kept busy over the past few years. She has continued to entertain fans, creating her own show called Charlotte Church’s Late Night Pop Dungeon, alongside “amazing and really cool” musician husband Jonathan Powell.
