STELLAR PARTY AT HER PAD
Celebrations continued on Saturday night as a glittering group of performers came together for the Platinum Party At The Palace. And while the Queen stayed at home and watched the event on television, she delighted viewers as she appeared in a surprise comic sketch with Paddington Bear to kick off the star-studded concert.
The two-and-a-half-minute clip, which had been secretly kept under wraps, showed Paddington joining Her Majesty for cream tea as he congratulated her 70-year reign.
The iconic bear was seen causing chaos as he deprived the monarch of tea, and accidentally squirted cream from a chocolate eclair over a palace footman’s face.
Paddington also revealed he always carries his favourite treat – marmalade sandwiches – on him, as he showed the snack under his hat. The Queen responded, “So do I,” before she was seen opening her handbag to reveal her very own ready-made supply of Paddington’s bread and marmalade.
She was then seen tapping out the beat of We Will Rock You on china teacups using silver spoons, before Queen + Adam Lambert opened the show with a special one-off production. Guitarist Brian May performed in front of the Queen Victoria Memorial before the band sang other hits including Don’t Stop Me Now and We Are The Champions.
It came two decades after Brian performed God Save The Queen on Buckingham Palace’s roof at the Golden Jubilee Concert in 2002. Ahead of the event, Brian, 74, said, “Twenty years after playing the Queen’s glorious Golden Jubilee we’re very happy to be invited again. Then there was a moment when I wondered… after Buckingham Palace roof, where can you go? Well … you will see!”
