Simphiwe Majozi is showing off his singing talents when his character Sbu enters the KwaMashu Talent Show with an Afro-pop song that has great importance to Simphiwe. “The Afro-pop song that Sbu sings in the competition is a song that I wrote and that I recently released,” says the actor. “I’ve been asking the show’s producers to give my song a chance and perhaps use it when they run the credits. So when the opportunity came and it was written in the script, I went for it!”
MAMMA, I MADE IT!
But before his big break, Sbu is beside himself with worry and disappointment when it seems like he didn’t get fame and fortune like he was dreaming of. He’d thought that the talent show would be the opportunity that opened doors to a better life instantly. “Sbu is an opportunist who loves money, but he is also talented. When he saw the chance to win R50 000 at the talent show, he had to enter,” says Simphiwe.
Sbu didn’t win the competition but it has led to something bigger… “Sbu gets called up by music producers who were at the talent show, they like his song and his singing. They offer him R200 000 as a signing bonus, a brand new Mercedes Benz and a personal assistant that people have to call if they want to just speak to Sbu.”
