She’s never been shy about sharing her struggles, but Demi Lovato is going further than she ever has before. The 28-year-old, who suffered a near-fatal overdose over two years ago, is finally baring all about the frightening ordeal that left her mere minutes from death.

“I had three strokes. I had a heart attack,” the singer explains in the trailer for the upcoming docuseries Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil. “My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes [to live].”

Back in March 2018, the singer was celebrating six years sober while on her Tell Me You Love Me tour, where she thanked fans for “being a part of saving my life” after many years of struggling with alcohol and drug abuse. But by that July, Lovato was found unconscious at her home in Los Angeles after relapsing just months prior. “I crossed a line that I had never crossed,” she admits of spiralling into addiction again.

The star spent almost two weeks in hospital before undergoing treatment at a rehab facility and then a sober living facility for months. And more than two years on, Lovato is still living with the repercussions. “Unfortunately, I was left with brain damage and I still deal with the effects of that today,” she admitted in a recent interview. “I don’t drive a car because I have blind spots in my vision. I also for a long time had a really hard time reading.”
