PANJA pulled out the newspaper from the slit of the door. With his morning cuppa in his right hand and the newspaper in the left, he positioned himself cozily on the sofa.
After a cursory glance at the front page which did not interest him much, he turned to the page which had classified ads. His eyes roamed over the ads and settled on the obituary section. It was his wanton pastime to scan the obits to see if anyone he knew had passed away. With unflinching regularity he went through the page day after day only to be strangely disappointed, not relieved as he should have been.
Today was no different. There was no familiar face proclaiming ‘sad demise and fond remembrance’. Days and months passed. Panja was not successful in his morbid quest. Enough is enough, he said. Didn’t his boss always say if things don’t happen, make them happen?
