Wait a minute! Did you know that recycling one 'aluminum can' saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours? It's the same with all the paper and packaging material you throw away. Recycling one ton of paper can save 17 trees! With that in mind, Deepak Sethi & Kishor K Thakur, the masterminds behind the successful 'Delhi Waste Management', launched Pom Pom, an app-based recycling platform that pays you for unwanted recyclable trash. It accepts nearly all kinds of recyclables with an aim to reduce the burden on landfills, keeping the environment clean, conserving natural resources and saving energy.

In an email interview with Apps Unveiled team, Deepak Sethi, Co-Founder & CEO of Pom Pom Recycling Pvt. Ltd. said, “All the plastic shopping bags, glass & plastic bottles that we just throw away are 100% recyclable. Yet this material is not recycled and ends up choking a landfill that eventually leads to contamination of soil and water bodies, causing irreparable damage to animals, marine life and the environment. We believe that if we incentivize people to segregate waste at source, this problem could be solved to a great extent. We not only intend to ease out the process for our customers but also make them feel that they are contributing towards their society and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by taking this one simple step of Recycling with us.” Edited Excerpts:

Q. Pom Pom is your brainchild. How did you come up with this idea?

Pom Pom was started in November 2015. Our experience in handling Delhi Waste made us realize that too much recyclable material is generated in Delhi, and a lot of this material gets contaminated when mixed with wet waste, and hence does not get recycled properly.
