Summer is the perfect time to create meaningful moments that you will always remember

Making Memories That Last A Lifetime

There’s a reason our favourite memories tend to be sun-drenched, and often triggered by the sounds and smells of the season. “Summer is when we take holidays, and the break from our daily routine expands the space for fun, connection and play,” says psychologist Karen Young. We have time to plan, recalling previous golden times and putting the elements in place to recreate them.

Read on for our expert guide on how to make, and appreciate, memories you will cherish forever…

1 Make time for meaningful moments

Great memories won’t happen if we don’t make space for special things. “Our lives are bursting at the seams with to-do lists so it can help to investigate whether we’re spending our time doing what we’ll look back on fondly,” says Rachel Martin. She suggests drawing a chart with five columns and five rows. At the top, write from left to right: Stop, Do Less Of, Keep Doing, Do More Of and Start. Then think about your life and fill in the boxes under the headings. “This can be a total eye-opener – it reveals the activities that no longer serve us, as well as those that have the potential to change how we spend our time.”
