FURY OF FASHION

The small town of Blackrod doesn’t often feature in high fashion circles, but if that ever changes, it’s likely it would be largely down to one man.

Alexander Fury, who was brought up in the town, has created a beautiful book on fashion house Chanel which was launched at a glittering event in Manchester’s five-star Edwardian hotel.

Luxury book publisher Assouline commissioned the talented fashion journalist to create the book, Chanel: The Impossible Collection.

‘I was fortunate Bolton library had a very good fashion section’

Alexander sat down with Lancashire Life to explain how a boy from Blackrod became a renowned fashion journalist, whose work has been featured in high profile magazines and websites across the world.

‘Growing up in such a small town was obviously very different to if I had grown up in London or even in Manchester,’ he said.

‘I was fortunate Bolton library had a very good fashion section.

I read everything I could get my hands on. It gave me the drive to ferret things out which I think has helped me in a lot of ways.

‘If a newspaper featured a fashion show, I’d buy four different newspapers to see how the same fashion show was depicted,’ he said.

‘Growing up in the 90s was great; it was such an exciting time for fashion. Alexander McQueen was going to work at Givenchy and John Galliano was at Dior.
