There are plenty of reasons to get out and about at the Yorkshire coast this month

Discover The Coast In …May

For cycling fans, May means one thing – the Tour de Yorkshire. Now in its fourth year, the race is bigger and better – the threeday race has expanded to become a four-day event. And, of course, it’s taking in a couple of coastal locations. Stage 3 of the men’s race (Saturday, May 5th) starts at Richmond in the Yorkshire Dales and ends at Scarborough’s North Bay, making the town the only one in the county to host a stage finish for all four events so far. En route, it visits Filey for the first time, sweeping along that glorious seafront – sadly, the riders will probably be far too busy to enjoy the view!

Scarborough’s foodies are looking forward to the town’s first food and drink festival. This two-day celebration (May 12th & 13th) takes place on and around the West Pier. Yorkshire Life favourite chef Stephanie Moon hosts the event which includes chefs James Mackenzie from the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass at South Dalton, near Beverley, and former Seafood Chef of the Year, Whitby’s Rob Green.
