In your life, each one of you has uttered a few words to somebody at some time or the other.
You have told people with whom you have come in close contact that; “If you need me, I am there”. If these words have not come out from your mouth then you have been living in fear and distrust. But if you have uttered these words, “If you need me I am here for you. I’ll do whatever I can for you”, did you observe your state of mind in those moments? To your very dear and loved ones when you say, “If you need me I am here for you. I am here to make you comfortable”, those are the moments when you have really lived your life. Otherwise, it is just “I”, “I”, “I” and “me” and “I”!
What is it that you want? How much can you enjoy? How much can you eat? How much beauty can you see? Can the thirst of your eyes ever be quenched? is is impossible! Beauty is infinite and there is no end to it. But, there is a limit, as to how much you can see with your eyes. There is a limit to how much you can hear your praises (though praise is infinite). Your capacity to hear is limited. How much can you taste? How much can you smell? If you work in a perfume factory, then you will not like perfumes at all. People working in perfume factories would like to be somewhere where there is no perfume smell at all. Maybe they might even prefer the smell of cow dung! The nose has it’s limitation to smell. It is the same thing with touch. All our senses have limitations. The world is so big but life becomes so small if it is not shared. Life diminishes if it’s not kindled up in sharing. This sharing you have all done; you have said, “If you need me I am here”, but only to your kith and kin, and very close friends. If you can say this to everyone, that is seva, that is service.
