Is it possible to garden in a frost pocket? Tamsin Westhorpe warms to the idea.

Embracing A Frost Pocket

WHAT do gardeners like to talk about the most? The weather of course. During the winter, frost is a hot topic; gardeners with a frost pocket needing to be extra vigilant about plant protection. So, what is a frost pocket? Put simply it’s an area of low-lying land where cold air collects. This makes it a tricky part of the garden to manage as frost will arrive early in winter and leave late in spring. Cold air is dense and tends to run downhill. It then gets trapped in low-lying land or in corners of the garden, which are well fenced or hedged.
