Gentle beauty, wife of B-town’s music and film baron, fitness freak... Passionate filmmaker, stubborn professional, nobody’s fool... DIVYA KHOSLA KUMAR combines these differing personas with ease. She carries no pressure of her famous surname. Her motto? “If you take your work in a relaxed way then it can click better.” Who could argue with that, says VIRAJ SAWANT!
Hailing from Delhi, in order to make a name for herself in the industry, Divya Khosla travelled to Mumbai all on her own. Meeting, falling in love and marrying Bhushan Kumar, the head honcho of T-Series, was destiny, she says. Struggling to make her name as a director in a world dominated by men, is her choice.
What phase of life are you currently in?
When you finish a film and you are about to start with your next, that is the only time you get for yourself. Once a film starts, life gets hectic and you don’t find time for your family either. So currently I am a little relaxed. Soon after YAARIYAN released I started working on SANAMRE. Within seven to eight months we went on the floors. When YAARIYAN released my son, Ruhaan was just one-year-old and now he is five. I had decided that I would give myself a break after two films. Right now, I am working on the script of our next one. This time, when I am working on the script, needs to be chilled because you need to get it right creatively. It’s not something that you can work on hastily. It needs to be done with a calm mind.
You live a dual life, personally and professionally. Talking about direction now, what do you consider as your strength as a director?
