Q NOWHERE TO TURN
I’m a 38-year-old man with a physical disability. My left leg was amputated due to a sickness and now I feel suicidal. I’m an orphan, and have no one to turn to. I have no home and I’m staying with my married sister. I was working before my sickness but now I don’t know what to do. Please help. ANONYMOUS, SMS
A Change is never easy, especially if you’re no longer able to do things for yourself and suddenly have to rely on others for everyday things or even to survive. You’re not an invalid just because you have one leg – you can still live a happy, fulfilling life. Call the National Association for People with Physical Disabilities in SA on 011-452-2774 for help and guidance. All the best.
Q TOO YOUNG FOR MARRIAGE
I’m 19 and I think I’m ready for marriage but my boyfriend says I’m too young. We have a baby boy and I want us to get married now. Does he love me or is he just stringing me along? ZM, E-MAIL
A You should consider yourself lucky that you have a boyfriend who’s thinking about what you might need. Having a child doesn’t necessarily mean you have to get married. And he’s right – you need to mature emotionally before you can be sure getting married is what you really want. You should also consider the fact that you both still need to establish your careers in order to be financially stable.
