Perfect For The Job

New OPW presenter Khanyisa Titus tells DRUM how she got the gig – and why she was made for it.

She's stepped into some big shoes. Phumeza Mdabe, Nomsa Buthelezi-Shezi, Anele Mdoda and Kayise Ngqula have all been on the frontline of one of South Africa’s favourite wedding shows.

Now it’s her turn. New Our Perfect Wedding (OPW) presenter Khanyisa Titus (30) is excited to take over the reins. Her time has come, she tells us confidently.

“As an unknown face making her debut on such a big show in the country, this has proven anything is possible if you just commit to looking for the right opportunity until the right opportunity finds you.

“This is my testimony.” Nothing prepared her for what is happening in her life right now, though. Being part of OPW is surreal and it’s going to take her a bit of time to adjust to the new normal, she says.

“At the time of shooting the first episode, a lot was going through my mind like, ‘Did they make the right choice by choosing me?’ and ‘Can I really do this?’

“But my director, Patrick Mpofu, and the rest of the technical crew made me believe I was capable,” Khanyisa says.

“I’ve watched the first episode three times already. I was filled with so much anxiety that entire week building up to Sunday 29 March when it aired. I can’t even explain how I was when the day finally came. I was just all over the place. My mind was rushing, I couldn’t even eat. I had butterflies in my tummy and just an overall adrenaline rush.”

She was obeying the lockdown rules, so she watched the show with only her older sister, Khanya Titus.
