Cop on ‘Foxcatcher’ case says heir was taunted into senseless murder.

The Lie That Drove Billionaire Du Pont To Kill!

BATTY billionaire John du Pont remains the wealthiest murderer in American history — his crime recreated by actor Steve Carell in the blockbuster movie “Foxcatcher.”

Now, 22 years after the gunpowder heir shot Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, The National ENQUIRER can reveal the depths of du Pont’s madness — and what really happened to trigger Dave’s killing.

“This is the story you won’t see in the movie!” said a source.

Du Pont’s ancestors emigrated to the U.S. from France in 1800 and founded a gunpowder mill that grew into the massive chemical company that spawned nylon and Teflon.

By the 1990s, he was in his early 50s and living on an 800-acre eastern Pennsylvania estate that he called Foxcatcher Farm.

He’d built an Olympic-caliber training facility for wrestlers on the property, and recruited the most decorated brother athletes in U.S. history — Mark and Dave Schultz.

On Jan. 26, 1996, du Pont drove to the cottage where gold medalist Dave lived with his wife and two children.

Du Pont asked Dave, “You got a problem with me?” Then he pulled a gun and fired three shots.
