NEW DRAMA

Mother’s Day

Monday, BBC2 Hd, 9pm

On 20 March 1993, the Cheshire town of Warrington was packed with people enjoying a shopping trip and children buying Mother’s Day cards for the following day.

But just before 12.30pm, two IRA bombs ripped through the town centre, leading to the deaths of 12-year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Johnathan Ball, and injuring 50 others.

Now, 25 years on, BBC2’s drama Mother’s Day examines the impact of the attack on some of the people involved.

The events are followed through the eyes of Tim’s parents, Wendy and Colin (Anna Maxwell Martin and Daniel Mays), as well as Dublin mother Susan McHugh (Vicky McClure), who was so moved by the tragedy that she organised one of the largest peace rallies in Irish history, with around 20,000 people involved.
