Classic 1980s action adventure hero MacGyver returns to save the world
The name MacGyver might ring a few bells for British viewers of a certain age. The TV action-adventure was a huge hit in the US when it ran from 1985 to 1992 – starring Richard Dean Anderson as resourceful secret agent Angus ‘Mac’ MacGyver – and the show also enjoyed a limited run over here.
In September, a remake debuted in America to impressive ratings – this time with Lucas Till in the title role – and now UK viewers get the chance to judge the reboot for themselves when the show comes to Sky1 this week.
ACTION HERO
For 26-year-old Till, the all-action role was something he had been itching to do for a while.
‘Most actors say, “As a kid, I wanted to be Marlon Brando.” But when I was a kid, I wanted to be Arnold Schwarzenegger,’ he laughs. ‘I just wanted to be an action hero.’
