A revealing new look at the life of Princess Margaret
Award-winning Netflix drama The Crown has led to renewed interest in the life and loves of Princess Margaret, the Queen’s younger sister, who died in 2002.
This week, Yesterday’s Private Lives looks at new evidence that casts fresh light on Margaret’s notorious love affair with equerry Peter Townsend.
During the 1950s, rumours of a romance between Margaret and the former RAF officer were all over the press. But because Townsend was divorced, the relationship was frowned upon by the Government and Buckingham Palace.
