Roll out the red carpet for a night to remember

Oscars 2019 Who'll Win?

It’s the most glittering night of the year, as Hollywood’s biggest stars head to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles in the hope of walking away with an Oscar.

It promises to be a good year for Brits, with Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz up for acting gongs for period drama The Favourite, which has 10 nominations (joint most with Roma), while Christian Bale could be in line for a second Oscar for his role as former US Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice.

Here’s your guide to this year’s star-studded event…

LOSING HART

It was all organised: comedian Kevin Hart was due to host the awards until homophobic tweets emerged from his past, and Hart decided to step down. The Academy has announced they won’t be booking a replacement and the ceremony will go ahead without a host for the first time since 1989. However, stars including Whoopi Goldberg, Daniel Craig and Tina Fey will grace the stage to present individual awards. ‘It’s not an easy job. I’m not surprised that they have a tough time finding takers,’ says 2013 host Seth MacFarlane. ‘All eyes are on you, you’re so much in the spotlight, and you’ll have a lot of opinions from a lot of people.’
