With an unconventional heroine, a beautiful coastal backdrop and splendid costumes, lavish Regency-era drama Sanditon struck a chord with viewers when it first aired in 2019.

So much so that when ITV cancelled the bold adaptation of Jane Austen’s unfinished final novel, fans mounted a campaign to save it, securing two more series thanks to a deal between BritBox and US broadcaster PBS Masterpiece.

The second season will air on BritBox from Monday (it’s set to appear on ITV later this year).
