Many TV cops have a troubled past, but few are as damaged as Detective Superintendent Elizabeth Bancroft, the brilliant but ruthless officer played by Sarah Parish in ITV’s four-part thriller Bancroft.

The dedicated cop is hoping to be promoted to Detective Chief Superintendent and is trying to bring down a dangerous gang.

However, her life is turned upside down when new recruit DS Katherine Stevens (Game of Thrones’ Faye Marsay) is assigned to a cold case involving the 27-year-old unsolved murder of the wife of lawyer Tim Frazer (Linus Roache).

It becomes clear that Bancroft knows a great deal about the case and she will stop at nothing to keep her secrets hidden…

TV Times visited Sarah, 49, during filming to hear more…
