NEW TUESDAY / ALIBI / 9PM / EP 1 of 6 / DRAMA

The circumstances were less than ideal when lab technician Emma Hedges and builder Daniel MacAfee got together in the first series of Alibi’s forensic crime drama Traces.

While new recruit Emma (Molly Windsor) had discovered to her horror that a case study in her forensics course appeared to be her mother Marie’s unsolved murder, Daniel (Martin Compston) came under suspicion in relation to a fire that Emma’s department at the (fictitious) Scottish Institute of Forensic Science and Anatomy (SIFA) was investigating.

Unaware of their connection, the pair met and fell for each other, before being hit by another bombshell when Daniel’s father, Phil (Vincent Regan), was unmasked as Marie’s killer.

As we return to Dundee for a second series, Emma is training to be a forensic chemist and helping colleagues Professor Sarah Gordon (Laura Fraser) and Professor Kathy Torrance (Jennifer Spence) to investigate a bombing campaign.

Meanwhile, Daniel is suffering panic attacks as his father’s trial, at which he will testify, approaches.

TV Times caught up with Line of Duty favourite Martin, 37, and BAFTA-winning Three Girls star Molly, 24, for their take …

Where are your characters at the start of the new episodes?

MOLLY This series is set about four months after the end of the first one. Emma’s relationship with Daniel is still a bit strange, and they’re still finding their feet.
