By anyone’s reckoning, the last few years have marked a huge professional high for Morven Christie.

She has won critical acclaim as lovelorn single parent Amanda in ITV’s period crime drama Grantchester and as desperate new mum Ellen in BBC1 thriller The Replacement.

However, when TV Times catches up with Morven for an exclusive interview, she tells us that it’s her role as The A Word’s Alison Hughes, the devoted mother of autistic Joe (Max Vento), that holds an extraordinary place in her own heart.

Now, as the second run of the Lake District-set series draws to a close with a dramatic finale that finds Alison’s marriage to Paul (Lee Ingleby) under threat, Morven, 36, reveals what’s in store…
