Claire Skinner is having a ball-playing enigmatic Chief Superintendent Ormond in ITV’s popular Bath-set crime drama McDonald & Dodds. The Outnumbered star made her debut as the new boss of DCI Lauren McDonald (Tala Gouveia) and DS Dodds ( Jason Watkins) in the season-three opener last week, and now she’s presiding over a particularly baffling case as her team investigate a murder in the glamorous world of Formula One.

Here, Claire gives us her take on her role…

What appealed to you about Ormond?

It’s always about the character for me, but it’s also really important that everyone is properly represented, and I think we can still lag behind with women as they age.

I had an audition the other day where the script was just a woman discussing Victoria sponge. I thought, ‘Seriously?!’ I was pleased when I was offered this as there’s room to create someone interesting here.
