‘We're a dysfunctional family!'

Faced with vast deserts, perilous mountain ranges and areas of terrifying civil unrest, it’s certainly been no holiday for the competitors who are taking part in BBC2’s hit travel show Race Across the World.

‘Last week was the most traumatic five days of my life,’ says Dom Slater, who scared viewers in last Sunday’s episode when he suffered a seizure during the adrenalin-fuelled adventure series that promises a £20,000 cash prize to the winning team.

Racing 25,000km from the top to the bottom of Latin America – with no phones, flights or credit cards allowed – the four remaining pairs face more challenges this week as they enter Brazil.

Here, Dom, 23, a teaching assistant from Wetherby, West Yorkshire, and his teammate and sister Lizzie, 21, tell TV Times more…

Dom, you gave us quite a scare last week. Have you recovered?

DOM: It was more terrifying for Lizzie, having to witness my seizure. It was a combination of the altitude, dehydration, heat, lack of sleep and not eating properly.
