John & Kelly - Love & Life After Heartbreak

The ultra-private star talks about his marriage to Kelly Preston, his controversial religion and surviving the death of his son Jett

John Travolta said “I do” to Kelly Preston twice in 1991 – first in Paris, then again in Daytona Beach, Florida – so perhaps that’s why the legendary actor remembers to take his wedding vows to heart every single day. “We have, thus far, adhered to ‘for better or for worse and ‘in sickness and in health,’” he tells about the secret to his nearly 30-year marriage.

Oh, and regular date nights don’t hurt, either. “The favourite,” says the star, “has always been dinner and dancing.”

Having a steady partner – on and offthe ballroom floor – has helped the actor through tough times in his life, most significantly the tragic death of his and Kelly’s 16-year-old son Jett in 2009.

Now, 10 years later, he’s opening up in a rare interview about the strength he gets from his charmed life with Kelly, 56, and their two kids, Ella, 18, and Benjamin, eight. “Our children keep our interest in life very high,” says John, 65. “Their future is very important to us.”

THE HIGH LIFE

A typical day at the Travolta home starts with coffee. Freshly caffeinated, John and Kelly catch up with their kids, “then we do a family activity,” he says.
