“This is the modern era – forget about what society deems ‘the norm’ when it comes to dating and go for what you want,” says relationship expert Dr Gabrielle Morrissey.

IGNORE THE LABELS

When a man dates a younger woman he’s given a high-five, but when the roles are reversed a woman is often labelled a “cougar” who’s found herself a “toyboy”. But rather than getting down about it, we should embrace it.

“There are a lot of labels that women have managed to flip in their favour by owning it and calling themselves by certain names – that can be incredibly empowering,” says Dr Morrissey.

“When you become embarrassed or self-conscious about it, you’re self-sabotaging because you’re making it a negative experience.”
