WASN’T it lovely, the platinum jubilee? All those royals gathered in one place, the feathers, the finery, the pomp, the ceremony – and a certain little prince who hogged the limelight.
Forget Harry and Meghan. Forget Prince Andrew and his “Covid diagnosis”. The queen may have been the undisputed star of the show but after a four-day weekend of celebrations, Prince Louis was all anyone could talk about.
Louis on the Buckingham Palace balcony, pulling faces, covering his ears when the planes zoomed overhead, charming everyone with his interactions with his great-grandmother. A UK news outlet even brought in a lipreading expert to decipher the conversation between Queen Elizabeth and the four-year-old.
“Are the Red Arrows coming?” he asked. “I hope so,” the queen replied. When the planes appeared overhead, Louis exclaimed, “Yes, yes, yes!”
Charming, wasn’t it? And then there was the pageant on the final day of the long weekend and Louis was at his best again – sticking out his tongue, interacting with his cousins in the row behind, putting his hand over his mom’s mouth as she tried to curb his exuberance and defiantly thumbing his nose at her.
Kate and William acknowledged their boisterous boy in a tweet posted after the jubilee. “We all had an incredible time, especially Louis,” they said alongside the side-eyes emoji.
But was it all typical boy behaviour? Or, as many jubilee watchers asked on social media after the festivities, does Louis need a firmer hand and a little more time in the naughty corner?
