Richard Mille watches and F1 race cars have more in common than you think.

Richard Mille is a self-proclaimed car fanatic. “I have always been obsessed with anything that has a mechanical dimension, especially F1. I am mad about that,” he says. “My watches are based on the F1 technique, which is all about innovation, performance and strong design.”

In 2013, the label impressively incorporated NTPT carbon, an ultra-robust material commonly used in the making of yacht sails, airplanes and F1 cars, into a watch case. But, while incredibly strong, the material wasn’t the most feminine-looking. This year, that has all changed. “I know there is a sticker on my back that says ‘technical macho man’,” says Mille. “But I love the intellectual exercise of designing a proper ladies’ watch.”
