More than his fictional Asgardian avenger,hammer-wielding persona, Chris Hemsworth gets real as a true man of today.
At this point, it is arguably hard to imagine someone else as the fictional hammer-wielding Norse god, Thor; let alone separate the Marvel universe mainstay from the man that has taken on the persona of the superhero from the get-go. True to canon, Chris Hemsworth has the physical likeness down pat—from the formidable frame (read: intimidating) to the big, booming echo of a voice. (The long golden locks are an on and off thing, in real life as in the films.) However, it is the transition from cannot-be-messed with and hubristic Asgardian deity to a relatable, down-to-Earth (well, literally) avenger that really grips the audience. And that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, to be completely honest about it.
This uncanny parallel to Hemsworth in his journey from being an Australian upstart to being hailed as Hollywood royalty is a loose case of life imitating art, one that inadvertently hits the nail on the head (sorry, we couldn’t help it), showing us that you become the art you represent or create and vice-versa. “As an actor, I am able to make choices that really challenge me and allow me to move forward professionally,” he says of the luxury he is accorded now to take liberties with his creativity. “Integrity, honesty, and compassion are the values I was raised by, which means they are very important to me. The older I get, the more I realize the importance of having a sense of compassion. Having that attitude, being collaborative and staying open minded with a willingness to learn is what makes people want to work with you.”
