Barbie Biography

There are some toys that survive this test of time and this is one of those toys. Barbie has been around since 1959 and today the famous doll continues to move forward in terms of ethnic diversity and size. Originally known for her white skin, blonde hair, and tiny waist, Barbie has come a long way and has made some important strides for young women throughout her history. From humble beginnings as a career-driven role model to recently releasing the Hijab Barbie, many girls can now look at the ethnic doll and finally relate to the icon. In this day and age, young girls of different sizes and skin colour can find a Barbie that makes them feel accepted and inspires them to be who they are. Several pivotal moments occurred over time to get to this point – here’s a look at some of them!

UNTTLD (Simon Belanger)

Luxurious, domineering, and vibrant – three words that solidly define UNTTLD’s incredible showcase of their F/W 2018 collection at Toronto Fashion Week. Adorned with black headdresses (or hats), the models that graced Yorkville Village’s runway flaunted boldcoloured velvet dresses and boss-lady outfits. Since 2011, designer duo Simon Belanger and Jose Manuel Jacques have been creating lux pieces that reflect on masculine feminity to emphasize the capabilities and desires of the modern woman.
