How do you solve a problem like hosting a fashion show in a pan-demic? When Italian luxury fashion house Gucci’s Resort 2021 show was cancelled in May, creative director Alessandro Michele had a few lockdown epiphanies of his own. A video announcement declared the brand’s dreams to transform the fashion show business. On the agenda were more considered collections (Gucci officially entered the resale market in October), scaled-down shows (from five to two coed shows a year), and rewritten formats (outside of the quintessential fashion calendar). Of the critical internal changes, Michele told The New York Times, “We need new oxygen to allow this complex system to be reborn.”
