It’s 3 pm when I ring Avani Lekhara for our interview. The para shooter has already finished her mental training exercises, yoga and meditation, an hour-long physiotherapy session and three hours of her daily morning rifle shooting practice. Later in the evening, she’ll shoot for two more hours at the 10m digital target she had installed at her home in Jaipur when India went into lockdown last March, and at some point in the day she’ll catch up with her reading for the BA LLB degree she’s pursuing at Rajasthan University. “I’ve always wanted to become a judge, and my shooting has actually helped with my studies as well—I am more focused now,” she says.
