WE’RE now back into another mega-busy spell for the both of us - just how I like it!
We are going to try to get the rods out for a couple of nights a week on our syndicate waters in between a full-on work schedule.
We will also be tying rigs, preparing bait and sorting out tackle in readiness for our week-long match in France on the famous Crete Lakes.
Last year was our first visit to this complex, and the venue and all the bailiffs are spot-on. I can’t wait to get back out there. We’re excited by the prospect of catching some big French carp, fishing with a decent group of lads who we’ll have a good laugh with throughout the week. Plus there’s a chance of winning some prizes at the end.
In the meantime, we got together recently and headed from Essex to Oxford, to the famous Linear complex to fish one of our favourite waters.
That water is St Johns, the 18-acre day ticket lake where Jamie had just enjoyed success. This former gravel pit is home to lots of carp, from 'stockies' to old 'originals' in excess of 40 lb. It also throws up a few large catfish, which makes it interesting, as you never know what is on the end of the line when you pick up the rod.
Oxford-style approach We arrived late afternoon on Sunday, and opted to pitch up next to each other on the Point. We have fished these swims before and enjoyed good hits.

Making Short Work Of Specimen Chub
It takes angling guide Kenny Parsons a few hours to drive from his home, near Bath, to his favourite Wessex rivers, but it doesnât seem to bother him, as he just loves to catch big chub on feeder and fl oat tactics, his personal best standing at 7 lb 12 oz. One of his favourite methods for this cunning species is a maggot feeder with a short hook link.
