I’ve been detecting for two years, (well, on and off) which isn’t long I know, but now I’m truly hooked.
As a pastime I can think of none more relaxing – I just love getting out and about with my White’s DFX 300. Finding an artefact or coin is the main aim of course, but that is just one of the many benefits. You walk the countryside, exercising both body and mind. Your whole world is funnelled into one small hole and its mysterious contents, not only resting the mind, but calming the soul. The mystical treasure you have discovered may not be a golden chalice, but none the less, you gain an inner strength from its discovery.
The journey does not end here, not at all – for the avid relic hunter, it is just the beginning. There is now the task of preservation, of archivist, historian, of detective and of course diplomat when a valuable find is unearthed on a permission. Every day for me is a learning day.
