Q I’m a pretty experienced lifter, having done it for 20 years, and every day I see people screwing up in the gym. Is there a way to correct them without coming off like a jerk?

A Though your intentions are helpful, many gymgoers may become defensive if advice is offered unsolicited. Try asking what they’re working today and probe deeper with nonjudgmental questions. If they express a lack of knowledge, feel free to share your advice. But if they’re standoffish, you’ll just have to turn a blind eye—and be ready to provide an emergency spot, of course.
